PROMOTION out of division three must be a priority for Cavan after a litany of miserable seasons. The aspirations that Cavan have cannot be achieved from a berth in the third tier. But first, they must prove that they are division two standard team and that means gaining promotion and staying there.

The Breffni lads won the Ulster u-21 title with a thrilling victory over Tyrone. Players such as Gearoid McKiernan and Niall McDermott were introduced to the team. The 2010 Cavan u-21 team got to an Ulster final as well, but lost to Donegal. David Givney was a part of that team. Those two groups have fought together, and that bond can carry through into the senior team.

Cavan have played the Model county twice in the past two years, both times in NFL division three. They lost last year by two, but won by five in 2010.
Three players who scored last season will not be involved on Sunday, Johnston, Cian Mackey and Micheal Lyng combined for 2-2 of their 2-9 tally.
In 2010, Johnston was injured, and it was David Givney, then an u-21, who top scored for the Breffni men, alongside Ronan Flanagan, with 0-3.
VERDICT: Cavan
