A fitting tribute to Michaela McAreavey took place in New York last weekend as a Tyrone New York ladies team took to the field for the very first time wearing jerseys designed in her memory.
The specially-commissioned shirts were emblazoned with a red rose on the front in place of a sponsor, while on the back it read ‘Michaela - Ár Tir Eoghain Ros’ (Our Tyrone Rose) as the team took part in the New York Ladies Sevens competition. Afterwards, a fundraising event was held in aid of the newly-formed Michaela McAreavey Foundation.
Thirty of Ulster’s finest ladies footballers head for Athlone this weekend aiming to retain the Ladies Interprovincials title, and the northern province are fully confident that they can once again come out on top.
