>> FORM GUIDE
Antrim
Lamh Dhearg
Winners over Creggan in the previous round, could prove to be the
surprise packets of this years championships, especially if Paddy Cunningham
can continue his scoring exploits up front.
St Galls
The team everyone is trying to beat, Ulster club finalists last year and
will once again see the Antrim championship as a stepping-stone to bigger things,
now under the guidance of Down's James McCartan.
Armagh
Mullaghbawn – Always have a potential to do well, if they get a
good draw could reach the final
Harps – Bags of potential and have influential players like
Charlie Vernon and Collie Holmes. A dark horse this year.
Killeavey – Will be reliant on Steven Mc Donnell but have the
potential to go far this year. Second half of the league has been sensational.
Clann Eireann – Have had an average league in the second division
but will fancy their chances against St Michaels
Granemore – Have a good young squad and have the potential to
surprise a few teams this year.
Crossmaglen – Overwhelming favourites. Already have the league sown
up and have bundles of talent. The team to beat.
Pearse Og – The one team who have the ability to really put it up
to Cross. With the final being touted a for the Athletic Grounds the Og's will
be looking to be there.
Clan Na nGael – Will be looking to give the championship a good
rattle. Good blend of youth and experience and could be pushing for a final
place.
Cavan
Cavan Gaels - Are being
widely tipped to retain their title. Currently flying high in the league and
have the players and experience to make a strong mark again.
Mullahoran - Paul Brady, Dermot Sheridan and Eddie O'Reilly are their
main players and they could produce a shock or two in the closing stages.
Ramor United - Close to the top in Division Two, but wouldn't be a
strong senior club. Shock win over
Gowna in first round could be height of their achievements.
Kingscourt - Recent changed manager and will be anxious to impress as a
result. Finding the going tough in Division Two and not really expected to
challenge in championship.
Killygarry - Went straight into quarter finals, but the fact that
they're mid-table in Division One suggests that they haven't got the firepower
to threaten the top teams. Very reliant on Martin Reilly.
Denn
- Denn defeated Knockbride in the first round and are capable of reaching
semi-final. However, won't progress any further.
Derry
Ballinascreen: Managed to lose a massive lead to Castledawson in the
second half. Needed goals to win but the omens aren't good as their semi-final
opponents will be infinitely better.
Ballinderry: A two point win over Bellaghy in the quarter-final was promising
and they will be confident that they can lift their game against Dungiven in
the next round.
Dungiven: Eugene Kelly's side ended Banagher's run but they have an
altogether tougher prospect against Ballinderry.
Slaughtneil: A one point victory over Glenullin, the current champions, will be a massive boost to the team, and they will be massive favourites to beat Ballinascreen in the semi-finals.
Donegal
St Eunan's - The champions have been displaying great form on their way
to the semi-final. Most are tipping them to retain their title, although they
will want to guard against complacency.
Gaoth Dobhair - While their league form has been disappointing at times,
they have impressive championship credentials. Won the title earlier this
decade and are capable of doing so again.
Termon - Were fine winners over Dungloe in the quarter final and could
be the surprise packages of the closing rounds with Kevin McMemain and Paddy
McDaid on form.
Four Masters - The Donegal town side have a knack for getting goals in
major games and the presence of Barry Monaghan, Karl Lacey and Michael Doherty
means that they will cause problems for St Eunan's in the semi-final.
Down
Saval
Promoted from Division Two last year, Saval beat Ballyholland in the
previous round and now look forward to the quarter-finals where they meet the
winners of the Liatroim/Longstone replay.
Loughinisland
Defied the underdogs tag to emerge victorious from their battle with
Rostrevor with three points to spare, they last won the title in 1989.
Burren
Under the guidance of Derry's Damian Barton, former All Ireland Club
Champions Burren are the dark horses for this year's championship title.
Mayobridge
The 'Bridge men will take some stopping as they continue their bid for a
fifth consecutive Down title, still craving an Ulster Club title. A side laced
with quality and firm favourites once again for the title.
Fermanagh
Derrygonnelly - Carry a very dangerous scoring threat in the full
forward line of Paul Ward, Johnny McGurn and Kevin Cassidy. A proven
championship team who last won it in 2006, worth a punt.
Lisnaskea - Have not been going well of late, and have
disappointing in the Championship in recent years. It will be a surprise if
they can master Belcoo in the first round.
St Patrick's - Impressively disposed of the 2005 winners Teemore
Shamrocks in the first round. No lack of firepower up front, but a suspect
defence may let them down.
Tempo - Could be considered dark horses with their recent run
of form, although they struggled to dispatch Devenish in the first round.
Monaghan
Carrickmacross - Have been performing quite steady but will find
it tough in the business end of the championship
Latton – Have a good pedigree and with Eoin Lennon in midfield
will be a handful for most teams.
Inniskeen. – While they have good potential, they will struggle
against the county's stronger sides
Clontibret – With an array of talent including Dessie Mone, Vinny
Corey and Conor mc Manus, will be hard to stop
Magheracloone – Any team with the Freeman brothers are a threat.
Have the ability to win the championship again
Castleblayney – They are in with a big shout to win the
championship this year. Have the beating of Clontibret if they meet.
Tyholland – Newly promoted Tyholland will find it hard, but with
Gary Mc Quaid and Raymond Ronaghan, have the potential to cause an upset or two
Tyrone
Dromore - The reigning champions were held to a draw in the first round,
but are rightly regarded as favourites to retain their title.
Omagh - Drew with Dromore in the opening round and will be fancying
their chances of finishing the job. Would be a major surprise if they did.
Ardboe - Always capable of producing a good championship run. The fact
that they've so many county players on board makes them strong contenders.
Carrickmore - League finalists last year, they have been undergoing a
rebuilding process during recent seasons and look very formidable indeed.
Clonoe - Have produced opening round shocks two years running now and
play Carrickmore in the quarter final. Could be dark horses if they can find
their form.
Eglish - Currently struggling near the bottom of Division One.
Nevertheless, they have a hardcore of talented players and shouldn't be totally
written off.
Kildress - An experienced and very balanced side, the Wolfe Tones are
capable of matching the best teams around. Narrowly defeated in several big
games and could suffer same fate again.
Donaghmore - Now under the management of Eugene McKenna, they have been
among the most consistent championship performers without making desired
breakthrough.
Coalisland - Heavily defeated in county final last year, they could face
Dromore in the quarter final. Could be set for a much earlier exit this season,
despite presence of several talented young players.
