McEvoy hoping for improved performance ahead of league final

“We were very disappointed in our own performance the last day, we have no excuses as we’d a strong team out, I think we over-elaborated at times with the ball and our hurling wasn’t as sharp as Wicklow’s.”

These were the words of Derry manager, John McEvoy after his charges lost to Wicklow, the side they will meet in this weekend’s final.

The Oakleaf hurlers will hope to avenge the loss by making the necessary switches ahead of the big one.

“We hope to learn from it. I thought their hurling and decision making was better than ours.

“We took it game by game, we didn’t have any major goals for the league and now we’re in a league final we want to be competitive,” McEvoy told Niall Gartland of the Gaelic Life.

Derry take on Wicklow in the Allianz National Hurling League Division 2B Final in Inniskeen on Sunday with a throw-in time of 2pm.
