All-Star nominations: Ederney heroes and Derrygonnelly defender

HERE’S our nominations for the Gaelic Life Fermanagh footballer of the year award. Not surprisingly, a couple of Ederney men make the grade.

Eamon McHugh (Derrygonnelly)
A somewhat unheralded performer, McHugh has been one of Derrygonnelly’s best players for years. The Harps may have lost their crown, but McHugh was outstanding at half-back throughout their championship run. A great tackler, but also comfortable on the ball.

Declan McCusker (Ederney)
McCusker captained Ederney to their second ever championship title in Fermanagh, and it was a just reward for the 30-year-old Fermanagh star. A vital link between the middle third and attack for Ederney, and he also regularly contributes to the scoresheet.

Martin McGrath (Ederney)
Ederney veteran Martin McGrath finally got his hands on a senior championship medal in 2020 as his club won convincingly against Derrygonnelly in the final. He won the man of the match award, which is quite something when you consider he’s 39 years of age. A real warrior.
