Crunch clash for Antrim camogs

THE Antrim camogs face a must-win clash in their final group stage game in Division 1B against Wexford this Sunday.

The table couldn’t be more delicately poised as the winners of the game will progress to a league final showdown against Waterford, who won all five of their matches.

The Saffrons fell to their first defeat a fortnight ago when they played the Deise, losing out by 0-15 to 1-7 at Creggan. The visitors had too much power on the day and hit the final two points of the game to cement their place in the league final. Top scoring for Antrim was Loughgiel star Caitrin Dobbin, who scored 1-5 of Antrim’s overall tally of 1-7.

Antrim, who won the All-Ireland Intermediate title two years ago, have plenty of other strong players in their ranks including recently named Gaelic Life Club All-Stars Camogie Player of the Year Roisin McCormick and her Loughgiel teammate Lucia McNaughton.

Elsewhere, the Antrim Juniors team are a week away from their final Division 3B clash, taking on Dublin on Saturday week . It’s a similar story as both teams are duking it out for a place in the league final with the winners advancing to take on a strong Clare side. Antrim, who won last year’s All-Ireland Junior title, have won two of their three matches to date but must win this weekend to advance to the final.
