Antrim hurlers request urgent meeting following Fitzgerald position concern

ANTRIM’S senior hurling squad has requested an urgent meeting with county board officials as tensions grow over confusion surrounding manager Davy Fitzgerald’s position amid further concerns about basic team provisions.

In a letter reportedly send to the county board, Antrim players allege that a recent meeting took place between Fitzgerald and county board representatives, during which a decision was allegedly made to relieve the Clare native of his managerial duties. According to the squad, that decision was later reversed.

However, players say they were then informed by the county board that no such meeting ever occurred despite receiving confirmation from Fitzgerald and his management team that it did. The conflicting accounts have sparked frustration within the panel, who say the situation has undermined trust and created uncertainty around leadership.

Alongside the managerial uncertainty, the squad is also expected to raise issues about training gear shortages. Some players claim they have not received the full allocation of equipment set out under the Gaelic Players’ Association charter, adding to wider dissatisfaction within the group.

The players have warned that if a meeting is not granted, they may refuse to take part in a scheduled training session tonight [Tuesday] and could consider further action.
