Michael McShane has been named as the new Antrim senior hurling manager.
The recommendation is set to be presented to the County Committee for ratification early next week, which will be a formality.
The Ballycastle native succeeds to the role after two years at the helm of the county’s U20 hurlers, where he oversaw impressive progress. His tenure culminated in May when Antrim claimed the Leinster U20B title with a final victory over Carlow.
McShane has accrued considerable managerial experience at both club and inter-county level. He previously took charge of Tyrone’s senior hurlers, leading the county to the Nickey Rackard Cup title and a Division 3A league success.
He also enjoyed a gloriously successful spell with Sleacht Néill, leading the Derry club to four Ulster Senior Championship titles.
Welcoming the appointment, Antrim GAA Chairperson Seamus McMullan said the county had secured a manager who combines proven experience with an in-depth understanding of the county’s hurling scene.
“Michael brings a wealth of experience to the role, along with an extensive knowledge of Antrim hurling. We are an ambitious hurling county, and that ambition is shared by Michael and his incoming management team.
“Everyone across Antrim will wish them well, and when the competitions begin in 2027, the county will be fully behind our players and management.
“I also want to thank the selection committee for overseeing a diligent, thorough, and professional appointment process.”
