RORY Grugan has announced his retirement from inter-county duty, bringing an end to his Armagh career.
The Ballymacnab clubman made the announcement via an Instagram post on Monday night, saying “The greatest honour of my life. Thank you”.
Grugan won an All-Ireland Minor title with the Orchard County in 2009 before stepping into the senior panel to make his debut in 2011.
His championship debut didn’t arrive until 2013, when he came off the bench as Armagh hammered Wicklow in a qualifier tie.
With the exception of 2015, he represented Armagh every year ever since, clocking up 157 appearances in the orange and white. During that time, only Aidan Forker (159) and Stefan Campbell (158) played more games for Armagh.
Grugan was a member of the history-marking 2024 team that brought the Sam Maguire Cup back to Armagh for just the second time, beating Galway in the final.
He also added an Ulster Championship title to his medal collection this year, with his impact off the bench proving crucial as Armagh eventually shook off Monaghan after extra time.
