Grugan set to miss club championship

By Shaun Casey

ARMAGH’S All-Ireland winning attacker Rory Grugan is set to miss out on the club championship with a knee injury picked up in that historic All-Ireland final win against Galway.

The Ballymacnab playmaker left the action on the 50th minute mark, with Oisin O’Neill coming off the bench in his place as the Orchard County collected the Sam Maguire Cup for the second time in their history.

Grugan made his inter-county debut back in 2011 and has been one of Armagh’s most trusted lieutenants during Kieran McGeeney’s ten-year tenure. Grugan was an All-Ireland winning minor with Armagh as well back in 2009.

Ballymacnab begin their Senior Championship campaign on Sunday afternoon when they host Dromintee. It’s the first of three group games the Round Towers will have, with games against Armagh Harps and Mullaghbawn to come in the next couple of weeks.

Grugan, who helped the Nab reached back-to-back county finals in 2018 and 2019 when they lost out to Crossmaglen on both occasions, is set for a spell on the sideline and will miss the entire campaign.

His younger brother Jack is also going to be sidelined with a knee injury himself and the Grugan siblings will be huge misses for Ronan Murphy’s side.
