Armagh hurlers still chasing first win of the season

By Shaun Casey

SATURDAY is the final game of the season for Armagh, and they are still searching for their first victory of 2026. Having lost all of their Nickey Rackard Cup games to date, they’ve already fallen out of the competition.

It’s their second relegation inside the last couple of months. When inter-county action returns next year, the Orchard County will compete in Division Four in the league and in the Lory Meagher Cup come championship.

The only positive result they’ve picked up so far this season was a round five draw with Fermanagh in the league, although it wasn’t enough to keep them in the division. Karl McKeegan’s side take on front runners Tyrone this weekend in the final round of the Nickey Rackard Cup, and the Red Hands are flying high at the top of the table.

While Armagh have failed to pick up a single point, Stephen McGarry’s men have gone four from four, beating top contenders Sligo and Mayo along the way.

Tyrone will have home advantage on Saturday and for Armagh, it’s a case of fulfilling the fixture and getting out of there. They have had some underage success in recent years and will hope to build on that in 2027.
