IT’S do or die for Cavan Ladies this weekend as they face a relegation battle against Laois with the hopes of clinging onto their senior status.
Gerry Moane’s side were drawn into the group of death and suffered heavy back-to-back defeats to All-Ireland contenders Kerry and Dublin.
Geraldine Sheridan, Aisling Gilsenan and Aishling Sheridan carried most of the scoring burden for the Breffni Blues, but it wasn’t enough to get them close to Kerry or Dublin.
Cavan leaked seven goals across those two outings but will feel they have enough in their ranks to give Laois a real test this weekend.
Like Cavan, Laois struggled during the group stages and lost to both Armagh and Mayo by seven and 13 points respectively.
It’s not the first time the two teams have crossed paths this season as they also clashed in Division Two of the National League.
Three goals from Laois’ star player Mo Nerney saw the O’Moore County through four points on a scoreline of 4-6 to 2-8.
Gilsenan and Lauren McVeety, who has since gone travelling and is no longer part of the panel, raised Cavan’s green flags that day.
While their championship encounters have been one-sided affair to date, Cavan will be confident they can deliver a best display this weekend.
