FERMANAGH manager Declan Bonner has urged his players to ‘drive on’ and ‘demand more of one another’ after their booking their Tailteann Cup quarter-final spot with an impressive victory over Wexford.
The Erne men produced one of their standout displays of recent seasons at Brewster Park, showing character, resilience and composure to secure a deserved 2-20 to 2-13 win.
Their attention now turns to a preliminary quarter-final clash with New York at home next month and Bonner is determined his side maintain their momentum.
“These guys have put in a lot of work. They prepared well and we expected that performance today,” Bonner said.
“When we go back and analyse it, I’m sure there’ll be plenty of room for improvement, but any day you kick 2-20 is good.
“We’ve done a lot of work and we’re getting more quality back on the pitch. The sessions have been very competitive, which is what we’re looking for.
“The guys are in a good place and it’s about driving on now and asking and demanding more of one another.”
Bonner also praised the growing resilience within his panel, particularly after setbacks earlier in the year during the National League campaign.
“Maybe during the league when a goal went in, we collapsed, but there’s a bit of steel within the group now and good leaders,” he said.
“With the lads coming off the bench, they all made a contribution.”
The Fermanagh boss also highlighted the impact of Stephen McGullion, who scored two goals in their win over Wexford.
“Stevie has been absolutely brilliant. He’s trained really well and has improved with every game,” said Bonner.
Bonner also paid tribute to the Brewster Park support and called on fans to turn out in force again for their showdown with New York.
