Barrett returns to Donegal u-20 role

By Michael McMullan

FORMER Donegal minor and u-20 manager Shaun Paul Barrett has made a return to inter-county management with the u-20s.

The Milford man takes over from Leo McLoone who stepped away has brought Damien Devaney (Ardara) and ex- Sligo player Brendan Kilcoyne on board as part of his backroom team.

Barrett – father of current senior selector Luke – managed Donegal to the 2016 Ulster minor title – the county’s last – before moving to the u-20 grade.

With Jim McGuinness (senior) and Barry Ward (minor) already in place, it finalises the Donegal management posts ahead of the 2024 season.

Barrett has been busy helping Downings – under manager Kevin ‘Cookie’ Gallagher – on their way to the Donegal intermediate title and they travel to Kingspan Breffni on Sunday to take on Ballyhaise in the Ulster Club quarter-final.

It follows on from former Kilcar manager John McNulty taking over as the new manager of the Donegal Ladies team after Maxi Curran stepped down at the end of the 2023 season.
