Farney down to final four

By Shaun Casey

. The quarter-finals took place last week and both Inniskeen and Clontibret crashed out of the running.

Clontibret’s last eight battle went all the way to penalties, with David Lennon’s Latton side edging it 5-4. They two teams drew after normal and extra-time, finishing the game all square, 0-23 to 2-17.

Two first-half goals from Conor Boyle and Brian Greenan sent Clontibret, managed by Burren duo Paul McCartan and Neil Coulter, five points clear at half time, but Latton battled back after the interval.

Latton, who finished third in the overall table, will now face last year’s Intermediate Championship winners Magheracloone in the semi-final. Damian Feeney’s Mitchel’s have already beaten Latton once.

Reigning league and championship holders Scotstown are also through to the last four following their five-point win over Inniskeen last weekend. An early Inniskeen goal had them on the back foot, but they came good to win.

Andrew Woods found the net for John McEntee’s side, but Scotstown were ruthless in the opening period and bagged two majors of their own to sail into a comfortable 12-point half-time lead, 2-14 to 1-5.

Shane Hanratty raised a second green flag for Inniskeen, and while they did make a game of it, the damage had been done.

Awaiting them is Seamus McEnaney’s Corduff, who topped the league table with seven wins from their nine outings. That included an impressive 1-20 to 1-7 win over Scotstown on the opening day of the season.
