Courtney willing to bleed for Fermanagh cause

Eddie Courtney has established himself on the Fermanagh team this season

EDDIE Courtney is almost certain to make his championship debut in Saturday’s Ulster Championship preliminary round clash against Monaghan, and he admits he’d do anything to get a starting jersey.

It’s a novel start for the Aghadrumsee man, given that he lives just a stone’s throw away from St Tiernach’s Park.

His journey would be shorter than every Monaghan player apart from Fintan Kelly’s only for the fact that the Fermanagh squad will be meeting up at Brewster Park before heading to Clones.

While Fermanagh had a poor league campaign and were relegated from Division Two, Courtney says the team have been re-energised by the fight for a starting berth against Monaghan.

“Every player now is just pushing on for that starting jersey for the game. That pushes it all on, which is good.

“It’s dog eat dog. It doesn’t matter if it’s your best friend or your worst enemy, you’ll do anything to get ahead of him.
