ST Michael’s College have appointed Niall McElroy as their new GAA Development Manager.
McElroy is a past pupil and a former Fermanagh minor manager who has been involved with the county’s academy players.
“His appointment highlights both the central role of Gaelic Games within our school community and our ongoing commitment to supporting students as they engage with, develop in, and excel at the sport,” commented Principal Cathal O’Connor.
“More importantly, this initiative—made possible through the support of the Fermanagh County Board and the Patrick Blake Group—reflects our dedication to the holistic development of every student through a wide range of extracurricular activities and pursuits.
“This is the first in a series of exciting announcements regarding the continued growth of extracurricular and enrichment opportunities at the College.”
McElroy is preparing to take over the “exciting new” role as the new school year approaches.
“There is a great GAA ethos in St. Michael’s,” he said. “I will work together with the staff to build on that and give the boys in the school as many opportunities as possible to be involved in Gaelic games.”
Stephen McElrone, Fermanagh GAA Coaching Officer also commented on the appointment.
“The investment in post-primary schools is a key part of the restructuring of coaching and games in Fermanagh,” he said.
“St Michael’s College, Enniskillen, with its proud heritage in Gaelic Games and success at the very highest levels of Ulster Colleges Football, continues to play a pivotal role as a feeder into our senior intercounty teams.
“This is an exciting period for the College and its students, with an extended games programme being introduced to ensure that every player has the opportunity to develop to the very best of their ability.
“Niall brings a wealth of experience through his career, coaching, and volunteerism. all at the College and the wider GAA community wish Niall the very best in his new role.”
