Harte quells Farney Army as Red Hands pick up crucial league points

Allianz Football League Division One

Tyrone 1-16 Monaghan 0-12

From Odhrán Crumley in Healy Park

Tyrone have picked up their first league win of the season with a barnstorming win over Monaghan in Healy Park.

Man of the match, Peter Harte led the Red Hand charge with 1-6 including a spectacular first half major.

Niall Morgan opened the scoring from a free after just two minutes before Tyrone registered the only goal of the game after a fine flowing move.

Kieran McGeary found Matthew Donnelly who in turn flicked the ball to brother Richard and with the deftest of touches he played the ball into the run of Harte who unleashed a thundering effort into the top right corner of the net.

Dermot Malone opened the Monaghan account as Conor McManus and Harte led their teams scoring charges over the course of the half with the home team leading 1-7 to 0-7 at the break,

The Farney men would fail to score for 34 minutes after Jack McCarron’s free in the 28th minute, in this time Tyrone would take control with scores from Ben McDonnell, Cathal McShane, Niall Sludden and Peter Harte.

Ryan McAnespie would stop the rot in the 62nd minute of the game with a fine effort using the outside of his right boot but, it would prove to be a mere consolation.

In the end, it was comfortable for Mickey Harte’s men who comfortably picked up a vital first two league points of 2019.
