STEVEN McDonnell has hit out at the decision to appoint Clare referee Rory Hickey to last Sunday’s relegation showdown between his neighbouring county Tipperary and Armagh.
Hickey was the butt of criticism for a string of bewildering decisions that appeared to favour the Premier County. Their comeback victory sealed promotion to Division Two at Armagh’s expense and McDonnell said he should he never should’ve been selected in the first place.
“I don’t understand how a Clare man can be appointed to one of the most important games of the last day of the league.
“It’s a neighbouring county. There is no way in hell that a Tyrone or Down man would’ve been appointed to that match. Absolutely not a chance in a hell.”
