Heavyweight battles coming up in Monaghan

MONAGHAN SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

SCOTSTOWN V BALLYBAY

Sunday, Clones, 3.00pm

Scotstown haven’t been as impressive this year as they have in previous seasons but are still the team to beat in Monaghan. They got past Inniskeen the last day out but are still missing a few key men through injury. In saying that, they can still call upon county men Rory Beggan, Darren Hughes and Conor McCarthy. Ballybay won the group meeting between the two which will give them plenty of confidence of causing an upset and with the experience of the Wylie’s, Drew and Ryan along with Paul Finlay, Chris McGuinness and Dessie Ward could lead them to an upset.

Verdict: Ballybay

MONAGHAN INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP RELEGATION FINAL

MONAGHAN HARPS V BLACKHILL

Saturday, Cremartin, 4pm

MONAGHAN Harps edged a thrilling contest between the two when they clashed in the group games, winning 1-14 to 3-6. Two first half goals kept Blackhill in touch that day as the Harps looked like pulling away early on but a below par second half performance led to a nervy finish. Monaghan Harps were seven points ahead at the halfway stage but only scored twice after the turnaround. Blackhill still finished above them before losing to Emyvale in the quarter final to send them to this stage. Blackhill will be confident of getting the victory here and should retain their status.

Verdict: Blackhill

MONAGHAN JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

CLONES V KILLANNY

Saturday, Aughnamullen, 4.00pm

THEY were the top two teams in Group One of the Junior Championship and the only two teams that didn’t experience defeat throughout the entire campaign. It’s no surprise that when the two teams clashed in the group stages that they finished all square, although it was the final round and the game had little riding on it.
Both teams offer a serious goal scoring threat and this one literally couldn’t be tighter. It may require more than a single hour to decide the winner, but Clones may eventually get the job done.

Verdict: Clones
