Which Club game, that you played in, will you never forget and why?
That’s a tough one I suppose but one that sticks out for me after all these years was our first league game back after our teammate and friend, Kirk Kelly, was killed in a car accident. The club was devastated.
We were playing Moy. Neither of the teams were high fliers at the time but the game meant so much to us that day. It was a home match and Kirk’s family were all there. It turned into a bit of a war and we came out on top. Emotions were running high and if only we could have bottled that type of performance.
Which club game, that you watched, will you never forget and why?
The 2015 county final when Trillick won the championship after 28 years. We were brilliantly led by Mattie Donnelly with my young brother Eoin collecting a championship medal, following in my Da’s footsteps.
Which county game, that you played in, will you never forget and why?
I have to say my first match with Tyrone. It was against Armagh in 1995. Making your debut for your county is massive and scoring 2-2 made it a game I wasn’t likely to forget.
Which county game, that you watched, will you never forget and why?
That is a simple one – the 2003 All Ireland Final. Tyrone had just conquered their Everest, and against Armagh to boot. Sure how could it get any better?
What was the funniest thing you ever saw in a game?
A couple of things – The Hog (Paul Donnelly) throwing Wee James’s boot away in the 1994 Ulster final, or Seamus Gormley running up the field after Jody Kelly in the 1986 County final with intent. Sorry Jody! I am sure you didn’t find it funny
What was the most memorable performance from a player in a game that you watched?
I have watched many wonderful individual performances and picking one is near impossible. I suppose Stevie O’Neill’s performance versus Dublin under lights in Croke Park was unreal. Points from every angle. He was simply unstoppable that night.
What was the most memorable performance from a player in a game that you played?
As you get older it’s harder to remember all the various games you were involved in. Looking back, playing with my brother on the county team was massive.
Jody wasn’t a renowned scorer but his performance against Fermanagh in Omagh in 1996, scoring three points, was brilliant especially for us personally taking into context where we lived on the Tyrone Fermanagh border. A lot of bragging rights were at stake.
What did you love about the games you played in?
I just loved playing and scoring.
What did you hate about the games you played in?
Not much. Losing was the worst part, as well as not performing the way I would have liked
