Ronan O’Neill celebrates scoring Tyrone’s first goal yesterday
Tyrone enjoyed a comprehensive win over Derry on Sunday, a game which was over as a contest by half time.
Mickey Harte’s men ran out as 3-14 to 0-12 winners. The game had began in a competitive nature, however, two early goals from Ronan O’Neill and a major from Peter Harte left the half time score line at 3-8 to 0-6, and the game over as a contest.
Tyrone’s well marshalled defence, and strong scoring threat meant that Derry simply had not chance of winning the game, as they were wasteful and naive in possession.
As a result of this one-sided victory, the pundits were swooning about the Red Hands’ potential:
Just watched over the highlights from the Tyrone/Derry game. Ronan Oneill’s goal was some piece of skill. Very fast thinking & a top finish

@PhilipJordan7 Tells us nothing more than Derry still can’t play against a blanket defence after 10 years. Same every fecking year…

Tyrone now rank as Ireland’s third-best football team after Dublin and Kerry, under the @GAArankings Elo model on the basis of that win #gaa

Tyrone look really good, but have much to prove too. Of current Div One teams, have only beaten Monaghan and Roscommon in Champ since 2008.

The pass to Ronan O’Neill and his skill in taking out the 2 Derry players were equally brilliant.

Absolute class goal from @TyroneGAALive! Great finish from Ronan O’Neill – no sign of The Dab this time though! #TheToughest
