The game on game approach helping Cavan

National Camogie League Division Three final
Cavan v Wexford

CAVAN have been using a game-on-game approach this season and that won’t change ahead of Saturday’s league final against Wexford according to star player Erinn Galligan.

Phillip Brady’s side remain unbeaten in five games and Galligan praised the impact the management team have made.

“We all knew what we needed to achieve, was to keep competing in the higher divisions in the league and somehow get to the Premier Junior final again.

“We never looked further than the very first game that we went out to play and I think Phillip and all the management team, they said ‘we’re looking at Saturday’s game and then when Saturday’s game’s over we’re looking at next Saturday’s game.’

“Looking back at the games previous, seeing where we’ve faltered, where we can improve on, what we need to do, giving other girls opportunities in different positions to see what they can do.”

There’s also a great belief in the squad, that comes with the momentum of winning. “As the year went on, we grew in belief in ourselves.

“We thought maybe we could go the whole way when we started winning so that bit of belief as well as Phillip saying take it game by game, that’s all we done.

“So, a combination of the whole lot has got us the five games back-to-back.

“We’ll be looking at the league final and it’s just another game and we’ll see what we can do to improve on our last performance.”

Cavan face difficult opposition this weekend as they take on last years Division Three league winners and Premier Junior All-Ireland champions Wexford.

Galligan, who captained Cavan to a Division Four league title last season, suggests her side could meet a different style of play than they’re used to on Sunday.

“Wexford would be quality. Wexford, being the home of hurling and camogie, maybe more so than what Cavan’s known to be anyway, I think we’ll be introduced to a different style of play.

“It will be something that we’re probably not used to and something that we’ll have to adjust to early on in the game and not let the game get away from us by reacting too slowly to that.

“I do think that we have our own game-plan, and we play our own game. We have our own niche of camogie, and we believe in what we’re doing, and we believe it can work. It’ll just be who wants it more on the day.”
