As a protestant who went to Royal and Prior Secondary school in Raphoe, which is not a Gaelic footballing school, becoming a star county player was not an obvious goal for him.
But from this came a blossoming county career which came about after encouragement to try Gaelic football by Rory Kavanagh.
From here six county title’s came and went while he joined the party boys of the Donegal team in the noughties leading to many twists and turns none less than deciding to walk away from the side that went on to capture Ulster and All Ireland title’s.
“It was a roller coaster ride.”
“It was a great team but they lacked a bit of disipline compared to the Armagh and Tyrone teams. There was too much of a party atmosphere. The talent was there, it just wasn’t harnessed properly.”
Dunne a former Ulster hockey player goes on to discuss the many up and down’s of enthralling career including one particular disagreement with manager, Brian McEneff.
