McMahon retires from Tyrone duty

Justin McMahon won an All-Star for his performances in 2008 with Tyrone

JUSTIN McMahon has called time on a glittering career with Tyrone crowned by an All-Ireland senior triumph in 2008.

His decision comes almost four months after elder brother Joe also decided to hang up the boots after a distinguised intercounty career.

Justin captained the Tyrone U21s to an Ulster title success in 2006 and made his senior debut the following season in a national league tie against Fermanagh.

The Omagh St Enda’s man quickly rose through the ranks and made the number three jersey his own in Tyrone’s surge to All-Ireland glory in 2008, exemplified by a fantastic man-marking job on Kerry’s Kieran Donaghy in the final.

McMahon’s versatility was a major asset and he kicked a sublime winning score from distance in Tyrone’s All-Ireland quarter-final win over Kildare in 2009. Dogged by injuries throughout his career, he also played a major part in Tyrone’s run to an All-Ireland semi-final appearance against Kerry in 2015.
