Tyrone clubs return to action after holiday period

By Niall Gartland

THE All County Leagues in Tyrone will spring back into life after last weekend’s break in activity, and there’s still plenty to get through with the various club championships coming into view.

In Division One, there are eight rounds of action left to play between now and the concluding round in the third weekend of August.

It’s a similar enough story in Division Two, which wraps up a week earlier on Sunday, August 16, while Division Three is further down the tracks with five rounds remaining.

The 11 teams in Division 3A will play 20 matches from start to finish – they face each other on a home and away basis – and at this juncture have either 13 or 14 games under their belts.

We’re set to cross the halfway mark in the top-flight this weekend but a picture is already developing in terms of how it’s all panning out. Newly promoted Eglish have done very well indeed, winning six of their seven outings to date, and sit second in the table to Carrickmore.

Killyclogher are also in good form, and then there’s a batch of teams making up the middle portion of the table – including Ardboe, Trillick, Donaghmore, Galbaly and Dromore. Dungannon Clarkes need to pick up points and fast with only a single victory to their name at this juncture. Omagh are second-from-bottom with three points on the board, while Errigal Ciaran, Edendork and Coalisland have four points each. Still, there’s a long way to go.

In Division Two, Naomh Eoghan have arguably been the surprise package. They’ve won all seven of their matches to date and are in pole position at the top of the table, while Moy, Owen Roes and Cookstown make up the rest of the top four. Propping up the table are Kildress and Aghaloo, who have nothing to show for their efforts after seven matches.

In Division Three, Glenelly have really impressed and have four points to spare over their nearest challengers Stewartstown. In a spot of bother down the other end are Augher and Strabane.

Leading the way in Division Three is Castlederg, who have lost only a single match from their 14 matches. Hot on their heels is Tattyreagh, while Urney and Brocagh can also be pleased with their progress to date. Three of the ‘Thirds’ teams – Omagh, Cookstown and Donaghmore are bottom of the table.
