Donegal ace McLaughlin finally wins elusive All-Star award

AFTER years of wearing the Donegal jersey with distinction, one of the top attackers in ladies football, Geraldine McLaughlin, has finally won her first Ladies Football All-Star award.

McLaughlin was the only Ulster recipient at the TG4 Ladies Football All Stars Awards banquet last Saturday night, but she more than deserved her award after yet another fine season from an individual perspective.

She was greeted by hundreds of well-wishers when she later returned back home to her club, Termon. It was the fifth time she was nominated, and there was a feeling among Donegal supporters that she should’ve been honoured long before now. She’s coming off the back of possibly her best ever season in a Donegal jersey, averaging an incredible 9.9 points per game.

Expressing her delight at the honour, McLaughlin said: “This means a lot to all of us. We said it didn’t matter who got one as long as one of us did. My fiance has put up with a lot throughout the years and my family, my sister was nominated and you’d swear when I won it, she won it too. It meant a lot to absolutely all of us.”
