Former Down star to run marathon in memory of his uncle

ON Friday, September 18, Longstone man Martin Poland lost his fight for his life after five days in the RVH Belfast, following an accident whilst out on his bike.

Martin, who in life looked out for others, continued that crusade by donating his organs, saving the lives of many others.

All of this has inspired Martin’s nephew and former Down senior football captain Mark Poland and other members of his family to run their very own virtual half marathon around the Mournes in aid of Air Ambulance NI, on October 25, 2020.

The Air Ambulance assisted Martin and did everything in their power to help him. The service they provide around the Mourne area is invaluable, and donations are now open. To donate you can contact Mark on Instagram @polie11m or Twitter @polie11
