KEVIN CASSIDY: It’s heating up as the league hits the final Sunday

HIS week in the league we have Super Sunday. And it is just that when you look across all the divisions.

There is so much to play at both ends of all the tables. This Sunday I’ll make my way to Inniskeen for the derby clash of Louth and Meath, but, as usual on Super Sunday, our eyes will be spread out across all divisions. The scoring permutations will change all the time.

I have to say that TG4 do a fantastic job of covering all angles on the last day of the league. Their coverage is way above anything else we have at the minute and they add so much to the league campaign.

I have covered a lot of Division One games this year, so I am looking forward to getting a close look at how other divisions are coping with these new rule changes.

This game will be extremely exciting in the fact that Louth need the win to secure safety and Meath need victory to have any chance of making the final.

At the same time on TG4 Player, Down and Monaghan will be doing battle in Clones with the same fate in store for both or these teams.

I have to admit that at certain stages of this league campaign I have been impressed by all four of those teams.

I think that all four, regardless of what happens on a Sunday, will go on to have a good championship campaign.

They looked to me to have a good grasp of the new rules and the likes of Down seemed to be well suited to them. Some of their results could have so easily gone the other way.

Just like Division Two, all of the Division one games will be covered by TG4 across all of their platforms. At this stage we are still unsure of who might make the league final and who will join Derry in the drop to Division Two.

A lot has been said over the last few weeks about who actually wants to make this year’s league final. With both front runners losing last weekend, Dublin now enter the fray.

If I was to pick one game out of all these fixtures, it would have to be the clash of Tyrone and Dublin in Omagh.

There is so much at stake here in this game for both teams. Tyrone are mad for that win that may secure their place in Division One. At the same time, given how uncompetitive Leinster has been over the last number of years, Dessie Farrell will be mad keen on an extra competitive game for his young squad.

A win for Tyrone would take them to seven points but given how competitive this year’s league is that may still not be enough to save them from the drop.

With all that in mind and with the championship around the corner I’ll go for wins in Division One for Mayo, Tyrone, Armagh and Galway.

Those sorts of results coming in will have the lads on the calculators under some pressure come the final whistle.

We will have the league finals next week but when you consider everything that we have had to deal with in this year’s league, it has been absolutely amazing from start to finish and it sets up the championship nicely.
