Minor titles for Lavey and Eglish

LAVEY and Eglish won their respective minor championships on Monday night.

They join Denn and Newtownbutler who are champions in their respective counties.

Denn saw off Butlersbridge last month to land the Cavan title.

In Fermanagh, Newtownbutler were 6-10 to 4-11 winners over Teemore.

Dungiven went into Monday’s final in Derry with seven starters from last year’s team.

Lavey were a tough nut to crack with Sean McPeake, Don and Oisin Mulholland leading the scoring.

A goal from Callum Coyle had Lavey ahead by half-time.

Their counter-attacking play saw them hold the cards until Oisin Mulholland’s second goal sealed the deal.

Eglish were 2-12 to 0-16 winners over Carrickmore in the Tyrone decider.

Goals from Matthew F Daly and Rory O’Donnell were the key scores.

Carrickmore were five points up in the first half and led 0-10 to 0-7 at the break.

In the end, the Eglish goals made all the difference.

The Donegal final takes place on Friday night (Ardara 8pm) when four-in-a-row winners Four Masters put their title on the line against St Eunan’s.

Cullyhanna have booked their place in the Armagh final.

Reigning Ulster champions Dromintee are in the semi-final but their opponents are still unknown.

The quarter-final between Silverbridge and Carrickcruppen is under appeal.

Silverbridge were 3-8 to 0-16 winners but Carrickcruppen have appealed the result.

Dromintee have seven of last year’s squad available.
