GERRY Moane has stood down after three years in charge of the Cavan Senior ladies team, Gaelic Life can confirm.
Brookeborough native Moane took the reins at Cavan in late 2020 after a five-year stint as manager of the Tyrone ladies, during which he steered the Red Hands to All-Ireland Intermediate honours in 2018. He brought with him to Cavan his right-hand man, Barry Grimes.
Cavan managed to maintain their All-Ireland Senior championship status in the first two years of his tenure but will play Intermediate football in 2024 having fallen short against strong Laois and Waterford sides in the play-off series of recent weeks. On the flipside, they will still play Division Two football next season after a solid showing earlier in the campaign.
Moane’s departure now opens up a vacancy for the Cavan senior position while it will be interesting to see where his management career takes him next.
