Diarmaid Marsden says the Interprovincial tournament has maintained its importance despite waning attendances
ULSTER assistant Diarmaid Marsden has launched a staunch defence of the Interpros in the build-up to this Saturday’s final against Connacht.
The former Armagh star, who won three Railway Cup medals as a player, believes the tournament affords the “elite of the elite” to represent their province on a national level.
While team boss Pete McGrath expressed his disappointment at the poor turnout for Ulster’s semi-final clash win Munster on Sunday, Marsden is all about the business of winning.
“People talk about there not being too many people at the grounds, but to me that’s irrelevant. Who cares, the boys aren’t there to play in front of 50,000 people. They’re there to play for Ulster so if it’s one man and a dog watching, it doesn’t matter.
“The boys are there to represent Ulster, and they’re the elite of the elite within their province and it’s a great outlet for them.”
