PREVIEW: A glance ahead to an eventful weekend in Donegal

THE club championship are now in full flow in all the counties across Ulster. We take a look ahead to another busy weekend of games as the heat begins to rise as final days get closer.

St Eunan’s are out of the dace in Donegal. Here is the lie of the land ahead of a crucial weekend.

DONEGAL SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER-FINALS

MacCumhaill’s v St Michael’s

Saturday, O’Donnell Park, 4pm

OISÍN Gallen was the notable absentee as MacCumhaill’s accounted for Downings. St Michael’s had the weekend off but have had some notable performances. A big one for both teams.

Kilcar v Gaoth Dobhair

Saturday, Davy Brennan Memorial Park, 7.30pm

TWO teams who looked on from afar last weekend have ended up drawing each other. Gaoth Dobhair have won all four games but Kilcar are finding a bit of form. The toss of a coin here.

Naomh Conaill v Termon

Sunday, O’Donnell Park, 3pm

THE Termon prize for beating the champions is a clash with regular winners Naomh Conaill. It was an historic win over St Eunan’s and they’ll have had to deal with both the hype and the chatter around an appeal. The men from Glenties have been here before.

Four Masters v Dungloe

Sunday, Fr Tierney Park, 4.30pm

DUNGLOE lost year’s final and are making all the right noises about getting back, with their football doing the talking. Four Masters had to dig out a result against Glenswilly. Another big test for them.

Glenfin v Aodh Ruadh

Saturday, Donegal GAA centre, 3pm

A GAME neither side wants to be a part of, but it could end up being a real battle. Aodh Ruadh by a nose.

St Naul’s v Ardara

Sunday, Eamonn Byrne Memorial Park, 4pm

LOTS of pressure on the line here, and St Naul’s to survive it.

DONEGAL INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL SEMI-FINALS

Red Hugh’s v Naomh Columba

Sunday, Fr Tierney Park, 4.30pm

AARON and Philip Doherty were key men for ‘Glen in their quarter-final win but they had to hand tough against Buncrana’s comeback. Red Hugh’s had Stephen McMenamin to thank for their comeback. Something has to give.

Malin v Naomh Mhuire

Saturday, Burn Road, 5.30pm

JOSH Conlon, Christopher McLaughlin and Sean O’Neill shot Malin to an extra-time win over Uisce Chaoin. Goals from Joey Gillespie, Jack O’Donnell and Daniel Devlin did the trick as Naomh Muire steered clear of Milford. A tough to call.

Fanad Gaels v Cloughaneely

SHOULDN’T be much between these sides, but the Gaels might just get the job done.

BURT seem to carry a pretty decent goal threat and that may prove decisive.

DONEGAL JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER-FINALS

Convoy v Naomh Ultan

Saturday, Convoy 2pm

CONVOY finished in second spot and have home advantage this weekend against a Naomh Ultan side who were hit for five goals last weekend. If they can keep a lid on Cian Kennedy, Patrick White and Jack Boyle, they could advance.

Letterkenny Gaels v Robert Emmet’s

Saturday, Letterkenny, 4pm

RONAN Frain hit two goals as the Gaels accounted for Naomh Ultan last weekend. They will go in favourites to book a semi-final spot.
