Report: Canavan stars as Tyrone u-20s land sixth All-Ireland title

All-Ireland U-20 Football Championship final

Tyrone 1-20
Kildare 1-14

By Michael McMullan

TYRONE won their sixth All-Ireland title at this grade with victory over Kildare in Carrick on Shannon on Saturday evening.

The Red Hand County move joint third on the Roll on Honour, behind Munster giants Cork and Kerry

Ruairi Canavan led the way with a 1-7 tally that included a goal after 19 seconds.

Kildare’s response was instant with a goal from Daniel Lynam in the next attack.

Points from Dan Muldoon, captain Niall Devlin and Ciaran Bogue helped Tyrone into a 1-9 to 1-5 interval lead.

It took five minutes for the second half to produce a score, but when Tyrone got into the groove it was Canavan leading the charge.

Luke Killian and freetaker Eoin Bagnall kept the scoreboard ticking over for Kildare, but Tyrone were always a step ahead.

Substitutes Gavin Potter and Luke Donnelly – from a delightful Canavan pass – took their number of scorers to 11 on their road to glory.
