Special 7-a-side GAA tournament to raise funds for Evora Hospice

Local sportswear brand Swyft Sportswear is set to host a 7-a-side GAA tournament on Saturday, February 28 at Belleek GFC, bringing together teams from across the area for a day of competitive sport and community spirit all in support of Evora Hospice Care, Newry.

Founded by 24-year-old Drew McVerry, a Belleek GFC player and lifelong sports enthusiast, Swyft Sportswear is a new and growing brand specialising in high-quality custom sportswear and apparel. Drew’s involvement in local sport has been a driving force behind the brand, with a strong focus on providing teams with sportswear that combines performance, durability, comfort, and standout design.

From GAA and football clubs to volleyball, darts teams, workwear, school apparel, leavers’ gear, and bespoke clothing, Swyft can design and create it all.
The tournament will see the following teams compete on the day:
– St Laurence O’Tooles, Belleek GFC (2 teams)
– St Killian’s Whitecross (2 teams)
– St Mary’s Granemore
– Dorsey Emmets
– Silverbridge Harps
– Thomas Davis GFC
Each participating team will take to the pitch wearing a custom-designed Swyft Sportswear jersey, created especially for the event.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Drew McVerry, owner of Swyft Sportswear, said: “This tournament is about more than football. It’s about bringing clubs together, giving something back to the community, and supporting the incredible work Evora Hospice Care does for families in the Newry area.”

All proceeds raised from the tournament will go directly to Evora Hospice Care, a local charity that supports patients with life-limiting conditions, helping them live well from diagnosis through to end-of-life.

Evora provides individualised, compassionate care that focuses on each person’s unique needs, wishes, and quality of life, while also supporting families during incredibly difficult times.

The event promises to be a fun-filled day of sport, with strong community turnout, matches, and a shared goal of raising vital funds for an essential local service.
