Two Ulster GAA ‘keepers sign with US sports agency

By Michael McMullan

GAA goalkeepers Rory Beggan and Charlie Smyth have taken the next step in their hopes of clinching an NFL contract.

Pro Football Ireland reported that Farney star Beggan, the recent Gaelic Life goalkeeper of the year and Down’s u-20 winning goalkeeper Smyth have signed with a US-based sports agency.

Paul Sheehy, President of the ProStar Sports Agency, confirmed on X that his agency will be working with Beggan, Smyth and punter Darragh Leader, who was also due to part in a series of trials before injury saw the former rugby player opt to delay.

All three will be taking part in a ‘pro day’ next Wednesday at University of South Florida Bulls Football where their kicking skills will again be under the spotlight.

With each of the 32 NFL franchises requiring an international player from next season, it will enhance the Irish players’ chances of winning a life-changing contract.

Pro Star sports have over 30 years of NFL experience and currently represent kickers Matthew Wright (49ers) and Harrison Butker (Kansas City).
