Tyrone CCC hand out 14 suspensions

TYRONE disciplinary chiefs have dished out 14 suspensions arising from the mass brawl which soured Stewartstown’s first-round win over Strabane in the Tyrone Intermediate Championship a fortnight ago.

The match descended into chaos towards the end of normal time and video footage of the unseemly scenes soon spread like wildfire across social media.

Having subsequently conducted an investigation the Tyrone CCC took punitive action on Tuesday night.

Gaelic Life can reveal that four Stewartstown players have received a one-game suspension and will miss Saturday’s quarter-final clash against Moortown, while four of their supporters have been suspended for eight weeks.

Four Strabane players are also subject to a one-match ban, which will carry over to next year’s championship as they are already out of the running, while two Strabane officials were also suspended for a match.

Neither club have been fined for their part in the melee, and it’s also understood that both Strabane and Stewartstown have decided against appealing the aforementioned suspensions.
