Underage grading motion on the table at Donegal AGM

By Michael McMullan

DONEGAL club Ardara have tabled a motion for the county’s AGM next month that proposes a motion change to allow counties to organise their own underage gradings without being subject to “Central Council Policy”.

The main change in the motion – listed below as motion 6 – is the wording “subject to Central Council Policy” being removed and stipulation that competitions must take place at u-14, u-16 and u-18 level.

For counties of larger populations, there is the provision to provide additional competitions at u-15 and u-17 if required.

Letterkenny Gaels are also proposing the inclusion of hurling officer on the county board, with motions in place to change the relevant by-laws.

The Donegal AGM will take place in Letterkenny’s Mount Errigal Hotel on Wednesday, December 14 at 7pm.

Motion 6
That Rule 6.17 -Games & Competitions -Age Grades -Official Guide – Part 1 (page 87/88) be amended to read as follows:
Club
Adult
A player shall have celebrated his 17th birthday prior to January 1st of the Championship Year.
Under – Age Grades
A county shall determine its internal Under-Age Grades for competition purposes within the parameter of Under 21 down to Under 11, subject to the stipulation that competitions at Under 14,
Under 16 and Under 18 must take place within each County together with one further underage competition above the Under 18 grade. The rest of the Rule to remain unchanged.”
