Manager must allow players to take control

In his column in this week’s Gaelic Life John Morrison looks at the six attributes that make teams great.

One of those is how a coach allows a team to think for themselves.


“When Graham Henry took over as All Blacks coach he started a new era of dominance.

“He understood that he needed to step back and empower the players by letting them deal with their responsibilities.

“His assistant Steven Hanson stuck with the same philosophy when he became head coach at the end of 2011.

“For both coaches their method was about  removing the fear of mistake: Express yourself, trust your instincts and make a decision. If you think it is on –  Go.”

He then goes on to explain his own take of how to deal with mistakes in training.
