In his column in this week’s Gaelic Life, Steven Poacher talks about one of the best coaching sessions he ever attended, taken by Donie Buckley.
It was at a GAA coaching conference in Croke Park.
“The theme was applying a games-based approach to training.
“Donie Buckley took a football session while Martin Fogarty took a hurling session and the coaches assembled in the stand and watched the session.
“It was the best piece of learning I have ever had at any courses I have ever been to.
“That was ten years ago. I have been to many since but I haven’t come across too many that provide what coaches want.
“Coaches want practical visual ideas they can take back to their own training.
“They want to see as many ideas practically as possible, and it is something I have worked on while delivering successful coach education days over the last ten years.”
Steven is running his own game-based coaching event at Ballyholland on Saturday February 3, and if you are interested in taking part please contact Steven on 07779780919 or stevepoacher@hotmail.com. The cost is £10 which is payable on the day.
