Camogie clubs get provincial series green light

THE 2020 provincial and All-Ireland Camogie Club fixtures – including the Ulster series – will be played later this year following mediation talks between the teams involved and the Camogie Association.

The clubs had planned to take the case to the Disputes Resolution Authority after there appeared to be no window to play the outstanding fixtures, but now a solution has been found.

The competitions will restart from November 2021 and will run for approximately a month. It is hoped that the All-Ireland finals will be played by December 19.

The 2021 provincial and All-Ireland club series will run after the 2020 season has been completed.

Originally the 35 clubs impacted by the 2020 postponement had hoped that the games could take place in the summer.

“The 35 clubs of Cumann Camogaiochta na nGael that were still involved in the AIB Club Championship 2020 sought to have the championship completed this year 2021,” the association said in a statement last month.

“The Ard Comhairle has cancelled the championship despite the fact there is a window of opportunity to complete it in a three-week period from Monday 7th June to Sunday 27th June, a suggestion which was proposed to the Ard Comhairle.”

Last June it was announced that the competitions would be played when Covid restrictions allowed, but it appeared that was no longer the case. However, the games will now go ahead – albeit it at a much later date than anticipated.
