Changes at Cavan intermediate level

By Niall Gartland and Michael McMullan

A NUMBER of Cavan intermediate clubs have announced new managers in recent weeks ahead of the 2024 season.

Templeport, who bowed out at the quarter-final stage of last season’s championship, have appointed Paul Prior as their new manager.

He has extensive experience, managing his native Ballinamore to Intermediate success in 2016 before more recent stints at Leitrim Gaels and Cavan club Mullahoran.

He will be joined on the line by another Ballinamore man Adrian Gallogly, who has also assisted him previously.

Ballymachugh have installed Ciaran O’Malley as their man in charge for the year ahead. The Ratoath native also brings a vast amount of experience to the table, having managed the likes of Cootehill, Cuchulainn’s, Ballyhaise and Drumalee down the years.

Former Derry defender Gerard O’Kane has been appointed as the new manager of Cavan side Killinkere.

O’Kane, Derry’s 2002 minor All-Ireland winning captain, resides in Cavan and has been involved in coaching with Ramor United and has been heavily involved with Glenullin.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that former Cavan stalwart Fintan Cahill has been reappointed for a second season leading the line at his native Cuchulainn’s.
