Captain McGrath leads Ederney to maiden Brian Óg victory

A MARTY McGrath-inspired Ederney were crowned Brian Óg Maguire 7s champions on Saturday after they overcame a titanic battle against host club Lisnaskea in the decider.

In memory of former Lisnaskea and Fermanagh footballer, the late Brian Óg Maguire, who was tragically killed in September 2012, clubs and teams from around the county competed for silverware.

It was Ederney, St Joseph’s who won the 7s tournament for the first time, with McGrath, a brother-in-law of the late Brian Óg, captaining the team.

He was also awarded the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award.

“(It’s) a very proud moment for all our players who represented our club so well today and a big thanks to Lisnaskea Emmetts for your hospitality,” said the North Fermanagh club.

Meanwhile, Newtownbutler came out on top in the u-15 boys’ event, while Roslea won the u-15 girls’ tournament.
