Derrygonnelly Harps go back-to-back

A SPIRITED first-half performance from Derrygonnelly helped them retain the Fermanagh Division One League title after holding off a determined Teemore comeback at Brewster Park on Sunday evening.

The Harps laid the foundations for victory with an impressive opening half, hitting three goals to establish a commanding nine-point advantage at the break.

Teemore produced a remarkable response after the restart, turning the contest into a gripping finale as they cut the deficit to just two points in added time.

The Shamrocks had an opportunity to level from a two-point free, but they failed to take the chance, with Derrygonnelly showing their

experience and character to see out the closing stages.

Captain Gary McKenna eventually sealed the victory with a composed score as Sean Flanagan’s side successfully defended their Division One crown.

The Harps now turn their attention to the Fermanagh Senior Football Championship, where they face Lisnaskea in the opening round.

Teemore will also switch their focus to championship action, with a meeting against Ederney next up.

The St Joseph’s men were crowned Division Two champions after a comprehensive 5-18 to 1-14 victory over Kinawley on Saturday, with Darren McCusker hitting a hat-trick.

In the Division Three final, St Patrick’s Donagh edged past Tempo after extra-time, winning 2-16 to 0-18, to bring the curtain down on an exhilarating league campaign, with all focus now turning to championship.
