Rory Beggan admits Monaghan’s performances in All-Ireland quarter-finals have been below par

RORY Beggan isn’t mincing his words on Monaghan’s failure to step up the plate beyond the familiar confines of Ulster football.

Speaking in today’s Gaelic Life, the Farney shot-stopper throws down the gauntlet to his colleagues as they amend to make amends for an underwhelming 2016, which ended in qualifier defeat to Longford.

Neither does he make any bones about Monaghan’s ultimate aim this year – to atone for a string of bitterly disappointing All-Ireland quarter-final defeats between 2013 and 2015.

“We have been going up to Croke Park for All-Ireland quarter-finals and we haven’t put in one good performance.

“We need to learn from the last three quarter-final defeats. Why are we not winning? Why have we been flat? Why aren’t we doing our normal thing?

“We want to get to an All-Ireland quarter-final, win it and get to a semi-final. If we got to another quarter-final and lost…”
