Beggan named to start for Monaghan’s trip to Killarney

RORY Beggan has been named to start for Monaghan tomorrow as they kickstart their All-Ireland charge against Kerry in Killarney.

Beggan, who started between the sticks against Cavan in the opening round of the Ulster Championship, has recently been on trial with NFL franchise Carolina Panthers, but is named as Vinny Corey’s number one.

Monaghan have made five changes to the team that started in that six-point defeat to Cavan, and they will be without Darren Hughes, who picked up a season-ending injury in that game.

Micheál McCarville replaces his Scotstown clubmate at centerfield while the half forward line of Stephen O’Hanlon, Micheál Bannigan and Michael Hamill is completely new, although the latter two did feature the last day out.

Sean Jones has been recalled to the starting team and he replaces Jack McCarron at full forward and the Scotstown attacker is one of a number of experience heads on the bench alongside Dessie Ward and Ryan McAnespie.

Monaghan Team: R Beggan, R Wylie, K Duffy, R O’Toole, K O’Connell, K Lavell, C McCarthy, G Mohan, M McCarville, S O’Hanlon, M Bannigan, M Hamill, C McNulty, S Jones, C McManus. Subs: D McDonnell, J McCarron, S Mooney, D Ward, R McAnespie, D Garland, J Irwin, A Woods, B McBennett, J Wilson, T McPhillip.
