O’Rourke reappointed as Monaghan boss

Malachy O’Rourke will manage Monaghan for a sixth year

MALACHY O’Rourke has been reappointed as manager of the Monaghan senior footballers  for the 2018 season.

There had been some speculation about O’Rourke’s future after their All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Dublin, but Monaghan spokesperson Noel Duffy confirmed that the Derrylin native will be at the helm for a sixth season.

O’Rourke was handed a three-year extension to his existing contract last year, and after taking time to reflect, has thrown his lot in with the Farney County for another year.

While their ten-point defeat to Dublin was a disappointing end to a silverware-free season, O’Rourke remains popular with his players and has guided Monaghan to two Ulster titles since coming on board in September 2012.
