GL Fantasy Football – Last year’s AllStar NFL team

By Ronan Scott

This is the 2015 Gaelic Life NFL Fantasy Football Allstar team. The 15 highest scoring footballers in their respective positions.

There are a couple of lessons to take from this team. Firstly the goalkeeper, Rory Beggan, is the highest scoring player (joint with Sean Quigley).

Secondly, the rest of the defence is made up of three teams, and thirdly the Forward line has five different counties represented.

These are three points which are crucial.

Rory Beggan should be seriously considered as your goalkeeper and possible even your captain. If he can score that in division one last year, he can do it again this year.

Defensively, Fermanagh were tight last year because of the division they were in, so it may be risky to go with them in a higher league. Armagh are still worth considering. It may also be worthwhile bringing in some Tyrone defenders, they could be miserly in Division two.

In terms of midfield, Ethan Rafferty won’t be a high scorer in that position this year as he is named in the forward line. Instead, you might consider Michael McCann of Antrim. Fermanagh’s Ryan Jones scored steadily in the 2015 league thanks to playing in division three. He won’t score as heavily in Division two.

Finally, the forward line has a few players worth considering again. Sean Quigley is the obvious player on your team list. CJ McGourty is not lining out for Antrim so ignore him. Tony Kernan has played well for Crossmaglen, but he had a long season last year, and there is some concern that he may not be able to carry that form on.

The Down lads, Donal O’Hare and Paul Devlin are reminders that Down had a fine run in the league last year. They could put up big numbers again, but I don’t know if I’d go for two Mourne men.
