Anton Hegarty celebrates his Fantasy Football Triumph

A HEARTY congratulations to this year’s Gaelic Life Fantasy Football League Champion Anton Hegarty.

Around 2600 challengers entered the competition, which is sponsored by Premier Sports TV, and after seven rounds of action the honours go to Moville man Anton Hegarty, who finished top of the leaderboard with his appropriately titled ‘Lovely Wee Team.’

The 32-year-old electrician wins the top prize of £250, a kit bag, hoodie and county mug for his efforts. Second placed Kevin Devlin takes home £150, while third-placed contestant Martin Coyle walks away with £100.

Keep your eyes peeled as well for the launch in two weeks’ time of the Fantasy Football Competition for the Ulster Championship.

Meanwhile, we’ve been in touch with our esteemed champion in order to find out the secrets of his success.

How long have you been playing GL Fantasy Football?

A good few years at this stage

How successful have you been in fantasy football in the past?

Seeing as this is the first time you have been in contact with me, I would say pretty unsuccessful.

How long did it take to pick your team?

Realistically, probably about an hour. The boss kept walking in so I had to keep minimising the page (not the real boss, she would let me do it, the boss at work).

What was the secret of your success this year?

I don’t really want to give too much away here! The last time a Donegal man gave away secrets he missed out on an All-Ireland medal!

Do you have any tips/advice for the upcoming championship event?

Ha, absolutely none, I’ll probably come last in that…Will Murphy be in as a midfielder? He’d be a nice choice for captain if he is.
