AFTER years of coming up short against Kilkenny, Tipperary finally got their revenge, producing a sensational second-half display at Croke Park to reclaim the Liam MacCarthy Cup.
Tipp outscored Brian Cody’s side 2-15 to 2-08 after the break, with goals from John ‘Bubbles’ O’Dwyer and John McGrath, while Seamus Callanan hit an incredible 13 points.
It was Tipperary’s first All-Ireland title since 2010 and their 27th overall – and even Cody had to hold his hands up afterwards.
“There’s no arguments about today, the better team won the match. It was comprehensive.”
For Michael Ryan, it was the sweetest possible first season in charge. For Tipp, it ended a painful run that had seen them lose seven of their previous nine Championship meetings with the Cats.
The day was extra special for Tipperary as they also won the Minor title with a 1-21 to 0-17 victory over Limerick.
Elsewhere, there was disappointment for Monaghan Ladies, losing out to Cork in the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-10.

KILKENNY put an end to Cork’s hopes of an All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship three-in-a-row in a high-octane, bruising final at Croke Park.
The Cats produced a huge performance to beat Cork 1-16 to 1-13 and complete a treble of their own – adding the Liam MacCarthy Cup to their League and Leinster titles.
In front of more than 82,000 spectators, the sides were level five times in a fiercely contested opening half before the game’s defining moment arrived in the 29th minute. Aidan Fogarty latched onto a high ball and fired past the Cork defence to find the net.
Fogarty finished with 1-3 on what was arguably his finest day in a Kilkenny jersey, while James ‘Cha’ Fitzpatrick ran the show and tore through the Cork midfield.
In the minor showdown, meanwhile, Tipperary were much too strong for Galway, clinching a 2-18 to 2-7 victory.

CAVAN’S bid to win their first ever All-Ireland U21 Football Championship came to an end when they came up against an experienced Kerry team, who ralled in the closing stages to score five points without reply and retain the title.
Played in front of a large crowd of 35,000 at Semple Stadium, Cavan led by 1-6 to 1-5 at half-time but Kerry finished strongly to take the title.
Elsewhere, Derry star Anthony Tohill was again targeted by AFL bosses, Melbourne Demons’ head coach Barry Richardson making a bold bid to lure the Swatragh man down under. The expectation was that Tohill would elect to turn down the offer, and that’s exactly what happened.
